Happy(ier) hour summer-y cocktail recipes

Its mid-July in Massachusetts: Which means that the temperature outside has (finally) reached sizzling levels. I find that there’s nothing better than cooling off near the pool with a refreshing cocktail and some friends to beat the heat.

But what to make? Sure, there’s lemonade and iced tea, but for those at the right age, something with a slightly extra kick is sometimes appreciated, and helps you relax and enjoy your time not in an office or behind a counter.

There are so many summer cocktail recipes, it’s virtually impossible to try them all in one season. So here are some of my favorites to get you started.

Secret Boston: My favorite lesser-known spots

There’s a lot to love about Boston—from the Golden Dome of the Statehouse to the dirty water of the Charles River, the city has a charm and a way of life that influences residents and visitors alike. But what makes this city special are all of the unique and surprisingly lesser-known places that give the city a spark not found in others. These spots are unseen in big Hollywood movies like The Departed, Good Will Hunting, or Mystic River, but they’re there nonetheless, and are certainly worth a visit to Beantown in their own right! The Netherlands & Zaanse Schans, Belgium & Bruges

                The next day we awoke to grab a quick breakfast at the hotel before traveling into the Dutch countryside to visit the village of Zaanse Schans. I was so completely excited, even when it started to rain down on us. We made our way over a little path and through a wooden gate into the village. Working windmills turned in the distance, and the rain made the grass look ten times greener. The Netherlands are completely flat, so you could see far into the surrounding fields.
